3/10/2008Can you help us with a bike? Zambia Bicycle Project launched in the Borders
The Zambia Bike Project "Getting Africa Back on its Wheels" has been initiated and we are incredibly pleased with the first 24 hour response, with 23 bicycles donated.
We will take the bikes, restore them and ready them for shipment to Zambia sometime in the next couple of months. This is being done and supported by members of the Gala Christian Centre in Galashiels. We can issue a charitable number if you are interested in helping us raise money for shipping and travel to Zambia.
I also want to take the time to thank the many people in the Borders who have donated their bicycles! More will follow on this story and we will be able to share photos of the people receiving the bikes. Thank you to the people of the Borders! (And others too, including members of many churches in the Scottish Assemblies of God, and other local churches and businesses.)
Do you have a bike you need rid of? We take all, those that are beyond fixing up, we will ship for spare parts. Zambia, like many places in Africa, is very dependent on bicycles for work and play. These bikes will go to needy families, men, women and children and we are working with a local man and wife in Zambia that I know personally and a South African man who lives in Gala will be accompanying the shipment.
Can you help? Contact Rev. John Blair at 01835 870812 or Bruce T at 01896 750604. We will collect any donation.
