Somerfield Galashiels jobs 'safe' after takeover by B&M
10 AugustThe jobs of staff at the Galashiels Somerfield store are safe, according to the shop's new owners, Blackpool-based firm B&M.
The Somerfield store in Galashiels, along with the one in Hawick have been bought by the English company, unlike most other stores in the Somerfield group, which is now owned by the Co-operative Group, and is in the process of rebranding most supermarkets elsewhere in the country as Co-ops.
A spokesman for B&M said the jobs of all 58 staff employed in Galashiels were safe. B&M currently has almost 200 shops across the UK and employs 5,000 staff.
The group does not currently have any stores in the Borders, but does have shops in the Lothians, Dumfries and Carlisle.
B&M specialises in non-food retail, selling toys, electrical goods, clothing, textiles, household goods, toiletries and cosmetics and some confectionery.
