Schools and services in Galashiels set to be hit by strikes
24 NovemberCouncil services in Galashiels are set to be badly affected by industrial action on Wednesday 30th November, with our local schools all set to be closed on the day, and many other services hit.
The strike means that all local schools will close for all pupils on Wednesday, and other services may be affected too.
Commenting on national strike action that has been called in relation to proposed changes to pensions, Councillor Alec Nicol, Depute Leader of Scottish Borders Council (HR), said:
"In acknowledging that staff have decided to take industrial action to protest against proposed changes to pensions, we would hope that essential services could be maintained and that there will be no adverse impact on our most vulnerable residents.
"A number of teachers are expected to join the industrial action and having considered the safety and practical implications of this on Borders children, parents and staff, it will be necessary to close schools for all pupils on Wednesday 30th November. Further details on how this will be managed will be communicated in due course."
Members of the public may experience some disruption across all Scottish Borders Council services on 30 November.
