Road crash kills young man near Galashiels
A 24-year-old man has died after a road collision just outside Galashiels.
The accident, involving a southbound Citroen Saxo car and a Northbound Skoda Octavia, happened at around 5.20pm on Wednesday, February 8 on the A7, about half a mile north of the town.
Police, fire and ambulance personnel were in attendance and both drivers, who were unaccompanied, were removed by ambulance to Borders General Hospital where the young driver of the Citreon later succumbed to his injuries.
Family members were in attendance at the hospital.
The driver of the Skoda sustained minor injuries and was kept in overnight for observation.
The A7 remained closed until 11pm that evening whilst a crash investigation was carried out.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and appeal for any witnesses to contact them immediately, including the three occupants of a works vehicle, possibly a flatbed van, who stopped and rendered assistance prior to arrival of the emergency services.
