- I grew up in Galashiels, and visit as often as I can. There are so many good things about Gala. Of courses family is the best of the best, but there are many other things to appreciate about Gala. The lovely setting, the hills, the rivers, the gardens, the great architecture, for example, the stone builds, the Victorian homes, Old Gala House and the best of the best the War Memorial and the fountain. Bank Street Gardens is just fabulous. The Best of the Best of course is the sense of community and pride that surrounds the Gala Day. Galashiels is a treasure that should be appreciated by all.
