Almost half of people in the UK have received a winter woolly for Christmas that they have never worn or only worn once or twice. With just a few days to go until Age Scotland’s annual fundraiser Bobble Day on 10th February, the charity is asking people to resurrect their winter woollies, wear them with pride, and donate £2 to Age Scotland’s important work to provide information and practical support to help people in later life stay warm during the colder months.

Wacky woollen wear has enjoyed a recent surge in popularity with online retailers reporting a huge 600% increase in sales of festive knits compared to last year, so why not wrap up in your most colourful and crazy knits on 10 February? The fashion-forward could team neon legwarmers with stripy jumpers, giant jumper dresses with woolly socks, and even create matching outfits for pets!

Lorna Belle the manager at Age Scotland’s shop in Galashiels, said:

“Bobble Day will give local people a chance to get creative with their winter knits. If they don’t have a winter knit they should look no further than the Galashiels Age Scotland shop in Channel Street. We have a wide selection of woollie winter warming outfits at bargain prices.  But don’t forget to finish off your woolly outfit with a colourful bobble, also available from the shop for a suggested donation of just £2 and show your support for ending needless suffering for older people in winter."

"Bobble Day is definitely a chance to have fun, but there is a serious issue at its heart, and although Christmas is over and people are looking forward to spring, February is often one of the coldest months of the year and many older people find it difficult to stay warm”.

So get behind this season’s woolly craze, it’s easy to get involved in Bobble Day, just visit www.agescotland.org.uk/bobbleday and download our woollie information pack get your friends, family or work colleagues to “Get Their Woollies Out” and have fun.

You can also make a donation of £2 by sending the text message AGES10 £2 to 70070. The money raised will help Age Scotland to spread the warmth message to people in later life during the colder months.

And don’t forget to share your stories and pictures of your woolly antics on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/agescotland or Twitter, using the hashtag #BobbleDay.
