Galashiels to benefit after £17m Scottish Borders Council investment plans approved
23 AprilScottish Borders Council on Thursday agreed spending plans for projects worth about £17m across the region. A new bus station in Galashiels, roads schemes and increased school capacity are included in the plans, the BBC reports.
The proposals will take place over the next four years, with £6.4m allocated for the current financial year.
Some of the additional investment will be as follows:
- Development of the Galashiels transport interchange to provide a new bus station linked to the railway - £5.610m.
- Additional roads projects in 2010/11 - £1.8m.
- Improving school capacity 2010/11 - £775,000.
- Catering improvement plan replacing kitchens in primary and secondary schools in 2010/11 - £500,000.
- Improvements to Eyemouth and Earlston Primary Schools in 2010/11 - £600,000.
- Strategic business land development to provide serviced industrial land in Hawick, Duns, Lauder, Peebles and Coldstream - £3.635m over the next four years.
- Netherdale 3G sports pitch development 2010/11 - £750,000.
