Galashiels Inner Relief Road: New Braw Lads Brae opens

Scottish Borders Council today opened the new link road in Galashiels. The latest section of the Galashiels Inner Relief Road between Abbotsford Road and Paton Street has been completed. It will be named Braw Lads Brae.

The construction of the new link road between Abbotsford Road and Paton Street has progressed well over the last few weeks with the completion of the road surface, footways, white lining and anti-skid surfacing.

The Council opened the link road, (Braw Lads Brae), to two-way traffic early on Wednesday 17 February and removed the southbound traffic diversions from Melrose Road and Huddersfield Street.

Albert Place will remain closed to through traffic to allow the contractor to complete the last public utility diversion and finish construction of the new Albert Place junction with Braw Lads Brae.

During this last phase access will continue to be maintained for local businesses on Albert Place, via Paton Street.

It is anticipated that the whole of the works will be complete by mid March.
