Gala traffic improvements to start this winter
8 JulyThe next stage of the Galashiels Inner Relief Road Project is set to begin in the winter.
Ladhope Vale and Bridge Place will change back to two-way traffic to provide a route for through traffic to avoid the town centre, relieve congestion and allow work on town centre traffic management.
That will focus on pedestrian improvements on Market Street, Bank Street and the High Street.
Borders Council says there will be consultation and that “there is likely to be” a public exhibition before work starts.
The Council says the roads plans are part of the wider Galashiels Developments Programme, under which it hopes to build the Borders main station in the Ladhope Vale area once the Borders Railway is re-introduced. It hopes this will encourage local investment.
Looking forward to the new traffic scheme, or is the whole thing a pain? Have your say here on s1galashiels.
