Castle Warehouse closure could cost five jobs
3 OctoberFive people could be out of a job as Castle Warehouse blames the closure of its Galashiels store on the Borders rail link.
Two other stores in Peebles and Penicuik will continue trading, but the company has decided to close the Langhaugh Industrial Estate branch in November, claiming that advance works for the railway have left trading from the estate "impossible".
Castle is the only business left in Langhaugh Industrial Estate and the empty buildings around it are being demolished.
Company director Robert Finlayson told the Border Telegraph: "With the disruption to the location we saw a huge drop in footfall and with the next phase of advance rail works being the demolition of surrounding empty properties, we have been forced to finally conclude that continued trading from this site would be impossible."
He said that job losses were "inevitable" but that the company was looking at alternatives for some of the five people affected.
