Brave B&Q staff praised for bringing down hammer thug
8 JuneBrave security staff at B&Q have been praised for wrestling hammer-wielding robber Sean Johnston to the ground.
Johnston, of Carlin court, Tweedbank, had threatened to hit the have-a-go workers with a hammer - which he had just stolen along with nearly £100 of electrical goods.
But they pitched in anyway, and Johnston was arrested.
He pleaded guilty to theft and possessing an offensive weapon at Jedburgh Sheriff Court. Sentence has been deferred until June 28 for reports. He's out on bail, but on special condition that he keeps away from B&Q at Wilderhaugh.
A spokesperson for B&Q praised the staff for their bravery and quick response, but said that the store does not recommend that staff put themselves at risk in such circumstances.
You can read a report of the court case in The Border Telegraph.
What do you think? Should we encourage have-a-go heroes, or should we leave the heroics to the police?
