27/6/2009A great Galashiels Braw Lads' Day Saturday 27th June 2009
Our 2009 Braw Lads' Gathering reached its highlight with a hugely successful Braw Lads' Day. The rain stayed away for most of the day and thousands of locals and visitors turned out to see more than 300 riders take part in the historic event. After the earlier ceremonial rideout and ceremonies, the cavalcade proceeded from a packed Scott Street all the way to the heart of town, where the dignitaries and a large crowd were waiting at the War Memorial.
Chris MacKenzie (21) and Amy Gunter (20), this year's Braw Lad and Lass, performed their duties admirably and were well supported by their attendants Jamie Hind (Bearer of the Sod), Phillip Halliday (Bearer of the Stone), Emma Carlyle (Bearer of the Red Roses) and Amy Quinn (Bearer of the White Roses). After a very moving Final Act of Homage, the Braw Lad returned the Burgh Flag to the President of the Gathering.
