Galashiels is a large town in the Scottish Borders, famous for textile manufacturing. Sitting on the Gala Water, it's easily accessible from Edinburgh, and is home to Heriot-Watt University's School of Textiles and Design. Gala dates back to 1124 and its long heritage is celebrated annually in the Braw Lads' Gathering, part of the strong Borders tradition of common ridings. The town is mentioned in two Robert Burns poems and Sir Walter Scott built his home, Abbotsford, across the River Tweed. Galashiels is home to a community of nearly 14000 people and s1galashiels.com has been developed to allow residents share their news, views and opinions, make announcements, publicise events and show off their photos and videos.
